Involved in her Milieu: Sr. Huguette Fleurant

Sister Huguette Fleurant, along with Mrs. Mélanie Dufresne, one of her valued collaborators, gave a wonderful account to the Sisters at Residence SNJM Sainte-Émélie, of the terrific work carried out at CABIR (Centre d’Action Bénévole d’Iberville et de la Région) of which she is the director and where she is truly committed to the people of Iberville.

This is what Sister Huguette told us: "At the Volunteer Center in Iberville, we are a team of 12 salaried experienced workers and more than 550 committed and dynamic volunteers.

Our mission is to promote volunteerism and to bring about a positive response to the needs of the milieu. We must be ready to help out in unexpected circumstances, such as in the floods of 2011.  At that time, we gave out close to 3 000 meals to the victims of the disaster because they had no time to cook.

My duties entail many components which consist of planning, organizing, supervising and supporting the different services at the center: organisation, managing changes, customer satisfaction, perspectives for development, etc.   I have managed and planned human and financial resources, have maintained and developed relationships with partners and sponsors."

Subsequent to this meeting, Huguette wrote a letter to Sister Lise Brosseau, superior of the residence.

"It was a great pleasure to visit you yesterday afternoon, March 30th. We were greatly encouraged because the Sisters were so attentive to our projects.

Thank you for the generous gift and for your hospitality. In memory of Sister Jacqueline Lemay (who was also involved in the same area), the donation will be used to give an Easter gift to the volunteers from ‘Meals-on-Wheels’.

If you had heard all of Melanie’s comments upon returning to Iberville, you would know how much she appreciated the afternoon. She said to me:

“All of the employees should have this chance to visit one of the houses of your community because it is really touching to see the happiness in the Sisters’ eyes”.

Before getting out of the car, Melanie gave me a hug. She was very happy and said:

"Today I learned a lot and now when you talk about your community, I will better understand because I have seen the happiness which surrounds them”.

It is a credit to you. Thank you and have a good day.
